Energa’s new gas-steam combined cycle unit to be built in Grudziądz
Energa Wytwarzanie SA, a joint-stock company which is part of the Energa Group, has issued a call for tenders for the construction of a new 450-750 MWe gas-steam combined cycle unit of the power plant in Grudziądz, with all the supporting and accompanying infrastructure.
The new generator will be built as a unit with a gas turbine fuelled by a high-methane natural gas, a heat recovery boiler, a condensing steam turbine and a wet cooling tower. The contract will be carried out on a turnkey basis: it will include obtaining the necessary decisions, design, delivery, construction, staff training, commissioning, handover to operation and long-term maintenance of the unit. The estimated contract completion period is 36 months. Under the contract, the conclusion of a ten-year maintenance agreement is also planned.
The procedure will be conducted as a competitive dialogue. Companies interested in implementing the contract for the Grudziądz CCGT plant may submit requests to participate until 24th April 2019.
It is assumed that no more than 5 tenderers will be further admitted to participate in the procedure. The competitive dialogue will take place in the third quarter of this year. The agreement is planned to be signed with the contractor selected under the procedure in the first quarter of 2020. The contractor will be selected on the basis of technical and economic criteria and the price.
The Grudziądz CCGT plant project has been prepared for implementation within the Energa Group and is at an advanced stage of development. The investor has obtained all administrative approvals, including a building permit. In the previous years, a procedure for selecting the general contractor of the unit took place, but it was discontinued.
“The business environment and market conditions have changed, which has enabled us to undertake the project implementation again. The recently introduced capacity market provides an incentive for power producers to make new investments. The outcome of the auctions held in 2018 shows that it is possible to obtain support necessary to achieve profitability of the construction of the gas-steam combined cycle unit in Grudziądz,” says Piotr Meler, President of the Management Board of Energa Wytwarzanie SA.
High efficiency of power generation, low CO2 emissions and high flexibility of the planned unit are the factors that will enable it to compete effectively on the electricity market. The investment in Grudziądz will significantly increase the production capacity of Energa Group. It will allow for diversifying the Group's production capacity in terms of the fuel used, enable effective balancing of unstable renewable energy sources, and reduce the impact of the Polish power generation sector on the natural environment.
