ENERGA in the stock exchange’s premier league
Energa is one of the top three public companies of the year. Yesterday it received the Bulls and Bears Award for being the best company in the mWIG40 Index. After today’s session it will join the WIG20 Index.
For the 21st time the Parkiet daily newspaper has selected the best companies, institutions and managers on the capital market. Its Bulls and Bears Award („Byki i niedźwiedzie”) is one of the most prestigious awards for companies on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. The decision to confer this award is based on achievements, improved performance, share price growth and adherence to the principles of corporate governance. This year, the jury recognized Asseco Poland, Energa and Work Service as being the best companies. Each one of these companies represents one of the three major stock indices: WIG 20, mWIG40 and sWIG 80. 12 other companies received nominations. „This is an elite group worthy of being followed”, wrote the editorial board in its justification.
Energa won the mWIG40 Index category consisting of 40 medium-sized companies listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange demonstrating the highest liquidity. „This utility company took the stock exchange by storm. Despite the first few challenging months of share price contraction after its IPO, it more than rewarded patient shareholders. In 2014 their return on share price growth alone was 44%, while when factoring in the dividend – their return exceeded 52%. That is the highest return among companies included in the mWIG40 index”, – we read in the justification.
“It pleases us, and most assuredly our shareholders to an even greater extent that Energa is strengthening its position as a public company from month to month. Its high capitalization and liquidity have made it possible for Energa to join the premier league of companies listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. This is the outcome of the trust shown by our investors and shareholders and we would like to thank them for it while declaring that we will continue to work hard to grow Energa’s value”, says Roman Szyszko, Vice-President of the Management Board of Energa SA.
Energa, which debuted on the WSE at the end of 2013 has continued to demonstrate its presence on the public market more and more strongly. In 2014 its value climbed by more than 40% to PLN 9.5 billion. Energa headed up by Mirosław Bieliński is pursuing an ambitious dividend policy: last year it paid shareholders more than 80% of its profit, and this year it has declared a 92% payout. That is possible by constantly improving financial results. Since 2010 its profit and EBITDA have grown by more than 60% while its top line revenues have grown by 12%. In 2014 the Group recorded the highest annual results in its history and joined the ranks of companies whose earnings exceeded the threshold of PLN 1 billion.
This award conferred to the company coincides with its promotion to the WIG20 index, the Warsaw Stock Exchange’s most important index consisting of the largest and most liquid companies. Energa will join this index after the trading session on 20 March, as a result of the annual index review during which the list of participating companies is adjusted and the sizes of the blocks of shares of participating companies are determined.
